Hole 16
A very confounding 523-yard, par-5 hole that dramatically separates strong players from average golfers. There’s a lot of temptation down the shorter, left side but massive desert trouble there. By contrast, there’s plenty of room off the tee to the right, though taking that route leaves a much longer route to the green. The key is a diagonal ridge in mid-fairway, 285 yards out on the right and 265 on its left, that serves as a dividing point for tee shots. The second shot has to go around, under, or over a massive mesquite plugged into a mound at the middle-left of the fairway, 150 yards from the green. Its canopy overwhelms the approach and is the dominant mental (and physical) hazard for mid-to-high handicappers.
